How it works

How Gumtree charges

Posting an ad on Gumtree is free for most items, and there are no seller fees when a buyer pays through Gumtree. A buyer who pays through Gumtree pays a Buyer Protection fee on top, and delivery is always charged to the buyer.

FeeWho paysHow much
Posting an adSellerFree for most ads; some categories need a listing fee
Selling with Gumtree paymentsSellerNone
Buyer Protection feeBuyer70p + 5% to 10% of the item price, by value and category
Promoting an adSeller, if usedBump up, Urgent and Spotlight are paid extras

Not fully confirmed: Gumtree doesn’t publish which items pay 5% and which pay up to 10% Buyer Protection, so the buyer’s cost is a range. It also doesn’t list which ad categories need a listing fee. Gumtree’s promotion prices aren’t on a current fee page, so the calculator lets you put in what you paid.
