How it works

How Etsy charges UK sellers

Etsy charges sellers four fees on a normal sale, all quoted before VAT:

FeeHow muchOn what
Listing feeUS$0.20 (in pounds at the day’s rate)Each listing, for 4 months or until it sells
Transaction fee6.5%Item price, postage and gift wrap
Payment processing (UK)4% + 20pThe whole order, including postage
Regulatory operating fee (UK)0.48%Item price, postage and gift wrap
Offsite Ads15%, or 12% once a shop passes US$10,000 a yearOrders from an Etsy ad on another site, up to US$100 an order

UK sellers who haven’t given Etsy a VAT ID are charged VAT on top of these fees. Offsite Ads can be switched off until your shop makes US$10,000 in a year; after that they’re always on.

Not fully confirmed: Etsy charges the listing fee in US dollars, so the pound figure moves with the exchange rate. The calculator uses an estimate of 15p, which you can change. Etsy’s pages don’t give the VAT rate itself; the calculator adds the UK standard rate of 20%.

How much does Etsy take from a sale in the UK?

On a normal sale: 6.5% transaction fee and 0.48% regulatory operating fee on the item and postage, 4% + 20p payment processing on the order, and the US$0.20 listing fee, all plus VAT if you haven’t given Etsy a VAT ID. On a £25 item with £3.50 postage that’s about £4.17 with VAT.

Does Etsy charge fees on postage?

Yes. The transaction fee, regulatory operating fee, payment processing fee and Offsite Ads fee all include what you charge for postage.

What is the Etsy regulatory operating fee in the UK?

A fee of 0.48% of the item price plus postage and gift wrap, for sellers based in the UK. VAT applies to it as well.

Can I turn off Etsy Offsite Ads?

Yes, while your shop has made less than US$10,000 in the last 365 days, and then the fee is 15% on a sale from an ad. Once you pass US$10,000 the ads stay on for good, at 12%. Either way the fee is capped at US$100 an order.
